Hurts, Habits, Hang-ups - oh my!
Briefly on the Welcome Page I shared only a small part of what we are about. We believe "NO" matter what you are going through....there is an answer. I believe in my Heart of Hearts that Jesus Christ is the answer we need.
So whatever you might be going through.....there is answer. That might not be what you think the answer is, or that might not be your current belief is, but there is Healing there.
I have been in secular programs, like A.A., N.A., S.A.A, S.L.A.A. type programs, I am in no way trying to take away from those folks or programs....but they do not work for some folks, they did not work for me. They call upon a "Higher Power", I found myself playing with that "Higher Power".....that is a broad Definition to an answer. Did you know that some folks believe "satan" is a "Higher Power"? Or even a tree, or the Sun?
So what are "Hurts"? It could be something that "causes emotional anguish or makes us miserable" or "suffering: feelings of mental or physical pain" and/or "distress: psychological suffering", these are just some of many Definitions that we see. These "hurts" could be something we are going through right now, or they can be something from our past, that are effecting who we are right now.
The "hurts" you have brought from your past.....they will continue to control your life until you deal with them. But for some of us, we would rather use our "coping skills" from our younger years......I call them "Mask" .
Luke 16:15 says
"Then he said to them, “You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God." So who are we living for? Our mouths might say one thing....but our actions, Our lifestyles say who we are.
We hide behind these mask, so other folks can not see who we really are, we believe that they can not hurts us. Or we might think(I did) that they would never except the real me. These "coping skills" we use so often turns to or leads us to addictions, which we believe numbs our hurt/pain.
These "coping skill/mask" turns into "Habits", they become who we are. Webster's dictionary defines as follows "Habits are routines of behavior that are repeated regularly and tend to occur subconsciously, without one's directly thinking consciously about them." Then there is our "Hang-ups".
"Hang-ups" are/can be; an emotional preoccupation and/or an unforeseen obstacle and/or is slang for an emotional problem, a psychological disturbance.
There are so many Addictions out there today......some we can openly discuss in Church and there are some we feel we can not discuss in Church.
Sexual addictions, Porn addictions, Lust addictions are some of the problems today that we ourselves are either in Denial of, or we choose not to talk about it because we don't believe anyone else has or is going through what you feel, or fear of what others might think, or the Church just does not know how to help you........or sad...The Church just does not want to deal with these addictions.
From the Time I was 7 years old to me being 11 years old, I was molested by other boys I grew up with. These Hurts and Habits and Hang-ups, turned into anger, fear, insecurities and all kinds of unsafe behaviors, all kinds of emotional baggage, not to mention the psychological issues, it caused me to question everything about me. My "coping skills" turned into whatever would kill the pain.
The Message is this.....You are not alone! You do not have to continue to live like this! You think you are going through all this alone....you are taking your loved one through it too!
Drinking, taking legal or illegal Drugs, Porn, Adultery, Lust, Addictions to others, Love, Same Sex Attractions are just a few things that you might be involved in right now.....but the pain is still there.
Your Marriage can be saved, your family can begin to heal......you are ONE decision away from starting this Journey on this road called Recovery.
All About The Cross Ministries is a Jesus Christ Recovery Ministry. We believe that Jesus Christ can heal ALL our Hurts, Habits, and Hang-ups, that HE can restore us. We believe that we have to become willing to, by seeking HIM and getting off this "Merry-Go-Round" called life. Sanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting something different to happen.....I call that the "Merry-Go-Around" of our lives. I know about M-G-R's from our childhood.....but the "Merry-Go-Around" because we are somethings just going "around" in a circle.
Kay and I work with couples trying to save their Marriages, individuals who are looking for answers, we are all about "Real folks with Real issues Who are willing to Get off Life's "Merry-Go-Around" and Connect with a Savior Jesus Christ.
In Mark 1:41 it says that "Jesus had Compassion on the Leper and touched him", that same Jesus has Compassion on us and HE wants to help you today. We believe HE set the example.
